Bloomington, Indiana, is at the center of an array of fantastic outdoor recreation options. One of our go-to favorites is Griffy Lake, because it's so close to Bloomington and it's maintained very well – with lots of new hiking trails added within the last year! Did I mention it's gorgeous? Well, it is.
Griffy Lake Nature Preserve is located northeast of town, and only a short 3-4 mile (8-10 minute) drive from Sample Gates. Before you type in “Griffy Lake” into your navigation app or GPS, it's important to know that not all of the trails and activities at Griffy Lake are accessible from a single parking lot. To make sure you have an experience tailored to your preferences, I recommend checking out the downloadable map provided by the City of Bloomington to determine where to park.
If you’ve looked at the map, you can tell which trails have water views, and which ones are mostly woodland. While they are all good (in my opinion), my personal favorites are the Wetland Trail, Griffy Creek Trail, and the North Shore Trails, because they have water views. The most popular parking location is near the Boat House; from there you have access to the majority of the trails, and all of my personal favorites. If you just want to use your favorite map app (Google/Apple, etc.), look for the parking lot right across the bridge that crosses
the lake... that's the spot. This is also where the Griffy Lake boathouse is located with rental boats available to take out onto the lake during the summer months.
Below are some pictures from Griffy Lake that I've taken, and be sure to check out our print shop to order your very own copies! I hope you enjoy them, and I hope they give you a little more motivation to get out there and enjoy this space. Did I mention it's less than a mile away from one of our vacation rental properties, Sojourner's Roost!? Go check it out!
